Proper Insertion and Removal of Contact Lenses

Did you know that most of the common eye problems such as irritation, redness, and infection are the results of improper insertion and removal of contact lenses?

This article gives you a simple way of properly inserting and removing your contact lenses.

Insertion:

Thoroughly wash your hands with an additive free pure soap-no lotions, oils or perfumes (anti-bacterial pump soap, if otherwise pure, is ideal).

Carefully rinse and dry your hands. By the way, be smart and close the drain if you are working with your lenses over the sink.

Place the clean, wet lens on the tip of the index finger of your dominant hand with the concave surface (like the inner side of a sphere) facing your eye.

Move your other arm up over your head and pull the upper eyelid up to your brow with one finger and pull your lower eyelid down with the middle finger of your dominant hand. Keep both eyes open to avoid inadvertent closing!

Look directly at your lens and place it gently (no pressure or force) on the center of the colored portion of your eye.

Release first the lower eyelid and slowly roll your eye in all directions then release your upper lid. Blink slowly several times to eliminate any air bubbles then cover your opposite eye and focus upon objects in the distance to assure the lens is properly placed.

Repeat process for the other eye. Also, remember to thoroughly rinse your lens case with solution and leave it to air dry.

Contact Lens Removal:

Thoroughly wash your hands with an additive free pure soap – no lotions, oils or perfumes (anti-bacterial pump soap, if otherwise pure, is ideal). Carefully rinse and dry your hands. By the way, be smart and close the drain if you are working with your lenses over the sink

Wet your finger with rinsing solution. Pull down your lower eyelid and look up towards the ceiling. With your wet finger, gently touch the lens brush the lens down towards your lower eyelid. You will feel it in your fingers as it comes out so don’t look for it or it will center itself on your eye forcing you to restart the process.
